A Heisler Cab Ride

Some of us are constantly surprised by what happens wandering around the countryside.  My wife and I took 10 days to go visit my parents on the Oregon coast, starting by flying into Portland.  On checking into the hotel in Portland, as usual, I looked for the "things to do" flyer rack.  Well, who woodda thunk it, but there peeking out of the flyer rack, was one titled "Steam Train Rides"!

Seems the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad is located in Garibaldi, Oregon, a few miles north of Tillamook.  We studied the flyer, discussed it.  The next day, off we went, and found the place.

The train ride is from Garibaldi north along the coast to Rockaway Beach, a distance of five miles.  Tickets were 13 bucks, and I got us a pair.  We had about 20 minutes before departure, so I started taking pictures.  A few minutes later Debra says "Give me my ticket, I'm going to find a place for us to sit."  I give her her ticket and she walks away.  Five minutes later, she comes back, and tells me "You gave me the wrong ticket.  This one is yours."  "What?" I say.  "Here, this one is yours, you gave me the wrong ticket!"  She hands me back a ticket.  I'm perplexed, because I gave her a green ticket, and she is giving me back a yellow ticket.  "Read it." she says.

There are seven words on the ticket: "Good for one Cab Ride round trip".  CAB RIDE!!!  YIKES!! I was like a kid on Christmas.  You couldn't wipe the smile of my face if you tried!  "Happy Birthday, Honey!"

All that being said, here are are some photos from the trip.  As usual, the Large photo link will open a big (+/- 500KB to 1.5 MB) photo in a new browser window.
